18 teams, each plays the others once - for a total of 17 games each, over 17 game weeks.



Scoring points:

3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, 0 points for a loss.



Table order:

1. points won; 2. total goal difference; 3. total goals scored; 4. points in head-to-head matches; 5. goal difference in hth matches; 6. goals scored in hth matches; 7. total away goals scored; 8. placing in the Tabla General de Cociente (see below); 9. fairplay ranking; 10. draw.

Qualification for CONMEBOL competitions:

1-3 place *: 2013 Copa Libertadores

* - the 4 teams, participating in the 2012/2013 CONCACAF Champions League (Tigres UANL, Santos Laguna, Guadalajara and Monterrey) cannot participate in the 2013 Copa Libertadores. If any of them finishes on a 2013 Copa Libertadores spot, then the next best placed team in the Apertura table qualifies instead.

8 teams contest the Apertura champion in a knockout format.



Quarter-finals:

Teams are paired according to their Apertura standings:

1st vs 8th;

2nd vs 7th;

3rd vs 6th;

4th vs 5th.

Winners are decided over two legs, with the better placed teams from the Apertura choosing the hosting order.



Semi-finals:

Teams are paired according to their Apertura standings:

best placed vs worst placed;

2nd best placed vs 3rd best placed.

Winners are decided over two legs, with the better placed teams from the Apertura choosing hosting order.



Tie-breakers for the Quarter-finals and Semi-finals knockout matches:

1. aggregate score from the two legs, 2. higher Apertura placing.



Final:

The two Semi-finals winners meet each other with the winner becoming 2012 Apertura champion.

Winner is decided over two legs, with the better placed team from the Apertura choosing the hosting order.



Tie-breakers for the Final knockout matches:

1. aggregate score from the two legs, 2. extra time, 3. penalties.

18 teams, each plays the others once, with hostings reversed compared to the Apertura - for a total of 17 games each, over 17 game weeks.



Scoring points:

3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, 0 points for a loss.

1. points won; 2. total goal difference; 3. total goals scored; 4. points in head-to-head matches; 5. goal difference in hth matches; 6. goals scored in hth matches; 7. total away goals scored; 8. placing in the Tabla General de Cociente; 9. fairplay ranking; 10. draw.



Qualification for Clausura - Final Stages:

* - if any of the qualified teams is also to be relegated at the end of the season, it cannot play in the Clausura - Final Stages, and the 9th placed team in the Clausura table qualifies instead.



Relegation from the league:

Each team's points, obtained in the 2010/2011, 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 Primera División Apertura and Clausura seasons are summed, and that total is divided by the number of games played during that period (a total of 34, 68 or 102 games - depending on how many of the last 3 seasons the team played without interruption in the Primera División).

Teams are ranked in a Tabla General de Cociente table, based on the resulting average score.

If one or both teams have already qualified for the 2013/2014 CONCACAF Champions League through the Apertura, then the best placed team or teams in the Clausura table, not otherwise qualified for the 2013/2014 CONCACAF Champions League, qualify instead.

If the Clausura champion is also the Apertura losing finalist, it uses its champion spot for 2013/2014 CONCACAF Champions League participation. In such case, the best placed team in the Apertura table, not otherwise qualified for the 2013/2014 CONCACAF Champions League, qualifies instead.
