Louisville fires AD Tom Jurich amid pay-for-play scandal

Louisville fired athletic director Tom Jurich Wednesday amid the pay-for-play scandal that rocked the Cardinals' basketball program along with a good portion of the NCAA.

According to WDRB out of Louisville, the school's board of trustees voted 10-3 to fire Jurich.

Jurich had been the athletic director for the Cardinals since 1997. In that time the school has seen three scandals in the basketball program alone.

In 2009 former coach Rick Pitino was blackmailed by a woman with whom he had an affair; in 2015 a graduate assistant was accused of setting up recruits with prostitutes in hopes of getting them to commit to the program; and finally this year an FBI investigation revealed Adidas paid recruit Brian Bowen $100,000 to go to the university.

Jurich's attorney Alison Stemler maintains that he knew nothing about the most recent scandal.

"The extraordinary and unprecedented alleged wrongful behavior was kept from Tom precisely because everyone in the Athletics Department knows that Tom will not tolerate any violation of law or NCAA rules," Stemler wrote in a Sept. 29 memo.
