Cameron White has no regrets over his past criticism of Cricket Australia, having earned a surprise recall for the one-day international series against England.
Chris Lynn's injury-enforced absence from the five-match contest has prompted 34-year-old White's recall after almost three years out of the system, with Glenn Maxwell once again overlooked.
Former Australia Twenty20 captain White told RSN Radio this time last year: "You can get picked to play for Australia in any format out of the Big Bash, really. It doesn't make a lot of sense. I'm just a little worried to be honest, on the importance the selectors are putting on domestic cricket."
In a twist of fate not lost on the veteran, it is perhaps his own Big Bash League form that has earned him a return to the team - White has scored 79 not out, 51, 3, 49 not out, 35 not out and 68 not out in his six innings for Melbourne Renegades this season.
But White is not looking to turn back the clock and is hoping to clear the air with chief selector Trevor Hohns.
"I don't think I'd change what I said, that was just me being honest about what I thought about the selection process at the time," White told a news conference.
"Trevor disagreed at the time. We haven't spoken about it since, but that's OK as well. Hopefully during this period of time, it might be a good chance to talk it over. But it was just a comment on selection, which was an opinion-based thing, and I had a different opinion like many other people do as well.
"Making a few runs in the Big Bash hasn't hurt, but maybe it is a little ironic. I'd like to think that my one-day cricket for Victoria hasn't hurt my chances of getting this opportunity, so maybe it's a little bit ironic."
White scored 199 runs at 49.75 in four One-Day Cup appearances for Victoria at the start of the Australian season, but concedes he thought his chances at an international recall had faded.
"I was very surprised when Trevor Hohns rang me," White said. "I probably did think [I wouldn't get picked again] but in the back of my mind I never did give up all hope.
"It's something I've always wanted to do, get back and have another go at it, so I'm just grateful for the opportunity and the chance, it's up to me now whether I can make the most of it."
